Surrey Audio Works
Guitar Valve Amplifier Servicing, Repair & Restoration

Bookings Paused as of 16/12/2025
Unfortunately, popular demand has resulted in my lead-time (effectively a waiting list) becoming unmanageably long. As this doesn't serve me, or my customers very well, I'm not taking new bookings at the moment, and no new customers will be added to the list until it is at the point where it is only a couple of weeks long. Sorry if this causes inconvenience, and if time isn't an issue for you, then please check back occasionally to see when I'm taking bookings again. There are good some alternative technicians fairly locally. I won't make particular recommendations - please read their reviews and choose wisely.
Thanks for your understanding.

Welcome To Surrey Audio Works
Surrey Audio Works is an independent, appointment-only workshop based in Chertsey, Surrey, offering professional valve guitar amplifier servicing, repair and restoration.
From modern gigging amplifiers to cherished vintage classics, each amp is worked on carefully, safely, and with long-term reliability in mind.
Valve Amplifiers, Treated Properly
Valve guitar amplifiers are high-voltage electrical devices, often operating under significant thermal and electrical stress. Whether an amplifier is brand new or over fifty years old, proper repair requires:
-
accurate fault diagnosis
-
careful measurement and testing
-
respect for original circuit design
-
a clear understanding of electrical safety
Surrey Audio Works specialises in valve guitar amplifiers, applying a methodical, safety-focused approach to every job.
Vintage & Classic Amplifiers
Vintage and classic valve amplifiers present unique challenges: ageing components, obsolete parts, undocumented modifications, and the accumulated effects of time.
This is where careful, informed work matters most.
Our service and restoration work aims to:
-
preserve original tone and character
-
improve reliability and safety
-
respect originality wherever possible
-
avoid unnecessary modification
Modern Valve Amplifiers
Alongside vintage work, we regularly service and repair modern valve guitar amplifiers, including reissues and current-production models such as Fender Hot Rods, Blues Juniors, modern Marshall designs and a myriad of exotic boutique creations.
Many modern valve amps share core design principles with vintage circuits, while introducing denser PCB layouts and cost-driven component choices. The same careful diagnostic approach is applied, whether an amplifier is decades old or fresh from the factory.
Valve Amplifier Servicing
Routine servicing helps prevent failure, reduce noise, and keep amplifiers performing as intended.
Typical servicing includes:
-
electrical inspection and testing
-
assessment and replacement of ageing components
-
valve testing, replacement and biasing
-
noise, hum and stability checks
Valve Amplifier Repair
Professional diagnosis and repair of faults including:
-
power supply and output stage issues
-
preamp and tone circuit faults
-
intermittent noise, crackle and instability
-
control, socket and connection problems
-
Channel switching issues, fx loops, tremolo circuits etc. etc.
A Careful, Safety-Focused Approach
Valve amplifiers operate at dangerous voltages.
Every amplifier we work on is treated as a piece of high-voltage electrical equipment, not just an audio device.
Our approach prioritises:
-
Electrical safety
-
Long-term reliability
-
Clear communication about what work is needed — and why.
How It Works
-
Get in touch with a brief description of your amplifier and the issue.
-
We’ll advise on suitability, likely work required, and current turnaround times.
